achievementProfessional School Counselors are responsible for aiding in the development of their students in three domains: academic, personal/social, and career. In order to help students grow and develop appropriately in these areas, the school counselor should take a needs assessment of the school. This needs assessment is often times given to teachers, parents, or even the students, to determine what aspects of each domain their students are struggling with. Once this is determined, the school counselor can develop plans and lessons to address these needs. An achievement plan includes various interventions that are research-based and methods of evaluation with a focus on data (ASCA, 2012). So, as the school counselor implements these plans, he or she should collect data - this data will show if the school counselor was successful in addressing these needs. If the school counselor is not successful, they will be able to make the necessary changes to make their plans successful.
I have included a plan (to the left) that I made in order to monitor student's progress. This particular plan addresses the personal/social domain. The plan was developed to address the needs of students who are coping with the divorce of their parents. |
